Former IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye reportedly passes on

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Paul Tawiah Quaye, has reportedly passed away following a period of illness.

While details surrounding his death remain unclear, formal confirmation from his family is yet to be issued. Nonetheless, tributes are already emerging from within police circles, where he is being remembered for his leadership and service to the Ghana Police Service.

Mr. Quaye was appointed Inspector-General of Police in 2009 by the late President John Evans Atta Mills. During his tenure, he was widely noted for efforts to promote discipline within the service and restore public confidence in policing.

He also introduced reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism and ensuring higher standards of conduct among officers.

Colleagues often described him as a calm but firm leader, earning him the nickname “gentle giant” during his time in office.

He retired from the Ghana Police Service in 2013 after a long career in law enforcement.
