Mahama assures completion of Eastern Regional Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs that the stalled Eastern Regional Hospital project will be completed.

Speaking during a courtesy call on him, President Mahama stressed that he has instructed the contractor to return to the site and that payments will be made to enable work to resume and be brought to completion.

“The Eastern Regional Hospital stalled a bit and I have asked that the contractor go back to the site. We will pay him so that we can complete the project, the project will not be abandoned," he stated.

The President noted that his government is building on renewed investor confidence and the gains achieved since he assumed office in January last year, in order to create employment opportunities for the youth.

He further outlined plans to support growth through infrastructure and the uncapping of the District Assembly Common Fund.

He said this will enable Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to execute development projects.

He added that he would also cut sod for the commencement of three new hospital projects for the new regions.

“We are meeting all our debt obligations. Inflation is down. The currency has appreciated in value and we have a relatively stable macroeconomic environment. The economy is more resilient and is withstanding external shocks arising from the Middle East conflict. We are reaching important milestones and we remain focused.

“Government alone cannot absorb the numbers, so we need to invest in the private sector to industrialize, other potential areas like agriculture to absorb the unemployed,” he added.

The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II, further congratulated President Mahama on the successes recorded so far and expressed appreciation for the development projects in the region.
