Parliament’s legal committee to meet on April 23, to discuss Anti-LGBTQ bill

The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has disclosed that the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament will meet on April 23, to discuss the Anti-LGBTQ bill.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, April 20, 2026, he emphasised that the Anti-LGBTQ bill is not an executive bill, but rather a private members’ bill.

“When you are in the feild you act you don't talk, where are we? 23rd the constitutional and legal committee of Parliament are meeting on it, I know every stage and every process, it is not the executive that does that it is a private members bill,” he said.

He added that Ghanaians should appreciate President Mahama for what he said in the United States, noting that he cannot lose an honour because of this.

He questioned how someone can lose an honour, and say it is an advantage.

He also assured that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has confirmed that the bill will be passed at the meeting and submitted to President Mahama for him to sign into law.

“The speaker said let no people who don't know anything about it to stop talking about it, he passed it, he is still there in the meeting that Parliament is coming, it will be passed and when it is passed the president has also said he will sign,” he stated.
