A former Presidential Staffer under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, Robert Tettey-Fio Adjase, has stated that Ghana must adopt the habit of celebrating its heroes and heroines and make it a priority.
He said this when speaking to the media at the 30th anniversary of Ghana’s first IGP, Erasmus Ransford Tawiah Madjitey, at Asitey in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
According to him, it is a worry that, oftentimes, Ghana’s heroes and heroines are not given a befitting celebration for their immense contribution to the state either upon their demise or upon retirement.
He noted that some heroes and heroines, including Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Erasmus Ransford Tawiah Madjitey, Tetteh Quarshie, and Yaa Asantewaa, among others, should have been remembered and given enough recognition before and after their demise.
Mr Adjase expressed that he is not satisfied with the manner in which Ghana’s first IGP, ERT Madjitey, is celebrated, citing the situation where he was buried, the current state of his house, and the welfare of his family.
"This arrangement and the programs shouldn't have be done by the police but the family because the person we're seeing now, the form IG is a state person so the has to celebrate him not the family.
"The family didn't get the chance to meet the IGP and the police administration and the welfare so that they can see how best they can sit down on a round table to arrange for this," he said.
He added that the state should have marked the anniversary, not the family. Therefore, he appealed to the current IGP, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the police administration to, in subsequent anniversaries, give a befitting celebration to Ghana’s first IGP, Erasmus Ransford Tawiah Madjitey, who hails from Kroboland.
