Afenyo-Markin calls for manual testing in security service recruitment instead of AI

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has advocated for the removal of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the aptitude tests used in the ongoing recruitment for security services.

In a recent session in Parliament, he stressed the necessity of reforming the current system to allow young individuals without education in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to take the tests manually. He expressed concern that demanding candidates who are unfamiliar with ICT to complete an aptitude test via AI is counterproductive, effectively setting them up for failure.

"If someone who does not know anything about ICT is suddenly called to go and write an aptitude test via AI, and if the person does not have any means, it automatically means the person has failed already," he stated.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin also pointed out the difficulties faced by many individuals who visit internet cafés, emphasizing that such barriers often prevent them from accessing the internet altogether.

He voiced his support for the military’s initiative to create a system that enables candidates to complete the aptitude test manually.

"If it is possible, the system should be changed to enable our boys and girls who are not educated in ICT to write it manually."

He reiterated that this issue transcends political concerns, highlighting the need for the ministry to take appropriate measures to foster a more equitable testing process. "I do not want to be misconstrued as politicising; this is a serious issue that the ministry should look at," he remarked.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin noted that some constituents often approach Members of Parliament for financial assistance to help them access the internet, urging the ministry to reassess the entire system to ensure equal access for all.

"I speak for the entire house; I plead that the whole system be reviewed. Our boys and girls come to us MPs to take money to go on the Internet," he expressed.
