Elective politics hinders Ghana's development - Micheal Dodey

Engineer and analyst Micheal Kofi Dodey has expressed concern that elective politics in Ghana consumes excessive national attention and resources, often to the detriment of development.

In an interview with Channel one Tv, he stated that frequent elections and partisan battles hinder proper thinking and long-term planning.

"Generally, the way elective politics has evolved in recent years has not been beneficial for us," he remarked.

Mr Dodey emphasised that political discourse in Ghana is overwhelmingly focused on elective politics, leaving little room for thoughtful dialogue about the country’s development.

He identified elective politics as a significant weakness in the nation’s current practices, underscoring that it hampers progress by allocating considerable resources to elections.

"When politicians come into power, they must get their returns before the nation gets anything. So everything is dominated by procurement and how we can get our kickbacks, and unfortunately, that is where we are,” he said.

He urges a shift in priorities towards sustainable national growth rather than constant electoral competition.
