Ghana's President Mahama committed to enhancing women's leadership in public sector - Vice President

The Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reiterated President John Dramani Mahama's dedication to fostering women's leadership at the highest echelons of governance and public service.

During the second Annual Women in Leadership Conference, which took place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, she declared that the President has instructed all public entities to guarantee female representation in leadership positions.

“His Excellency has directed that public service agencies ensure a minimum of 30% female representation in leadership positions by this year, with an increase to 50% in 2023,” she said.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also underscored President Mahama's persistent emphasis on the crucial roles women play in national progress.

Additionally, she clarified that this mandate corresponds with the stipulations of the Affirmative Action Act, 2024 (Act 1121), which seeks to rectify gender imbalance.

“This directive is a strategic policy measure to further the objectives of the Affirmative Action Act and to institutionalise gender equity as a fundamental aspect of our development agenda,” she added.

This initiative marks a crucial advancement towards promoting gender parity in Ghana’s public sector, highlighting the significance of women's leadership in influencing national policies and contributing to development.
