The Ministry of the Interior and National Security has confirmed reports of a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso involving a truck transporting Ghanaian tomato traders, underscoring growing security risks faced by traders operating along West Africa’s northern trade corridors.
In a statement issued to media houses and signed by the Minister for the Interior and National Security, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the government described the development as disturbing, noting that the incident occurred in Titao on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
According to the statement, the truck carrying the Ghanaian traders was caught up in the attack, sparking concerns over the safety and whereabouts of those on board.
“The Government of Ghana has received disturbing information from Burkina Faso of a truck carrying tomato traders from Ghana, which was caught in a terrorist attack in Titao,” the release said.
Beyond confirming the incident, the Ministry disclosed that diplomatic channels have been activated, with Ghana’s mission in Burkina Faso engaging local authorities to verify details on the ground.
“The Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is liaising with officials of Burkina Faso to visit the attack site for details and identification of Ghanaians caught in the attack,” the statement added.
Officials say further updates will be provided as investigations progress and the identities of those affected are confirmed.
The incident has renewed attention on the vulnerability of Ghanaian traders operating in parts of the Sahel region, where persistent militant activity has increasingly disrupted trade routes, threatened livelihoods, and heightened fears over the safety of cross-border commercial travel.
