Majority Caucus demands immediate annullment of NDC primary in Ayawaso East due to vote buying allegations

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the urgent invalidation of the recently conducted National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, following accusations of electoral bribery during the event.

In a statement dated on Sunday, February 8, released on the letterhead of the Majority Caucus of the Parliament of Ghana, the caucus made it clear that it was informed of the widespread reports and allegations regarding vote buying associated with the recent primary in the Greater Accra Region.

The caucus expressed strong disapproval of the alleged conduct, characterising it as contrary to efforts aimed at rejuvenating Ghana's political culture and upholding integrity within the democratic process.

The document was signed by Mahama Ayariga, MP, Majority Leader, and Leader of Government Business.

After what it described as extensive deliberations, the leadership of the Majority Caucus resolved to formally communicate its position to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC.

Among the key resolutions outlined in the statement are: "The immediate annulment of the Ayawaso East NDC parliamentary primary.

"The disqualification and ban of any candidate found to have engaged in vote buying from participating in the subsequent primary to be organised after the annulment.

“The Majority Caucus remains committed to restoring integrity to our politics,” the statement said.

The statement was released and signed by Mahama Ayariga, MP, Majority Leader, and Leader of Government Business.
