The Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region has struck out a widely publicised case involving a teacher and a final-year student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School (NCASS) over alleged unpaid hostel fees, directing that the matter be resolved amicably.
The decision brings an end to court proceedings after prosecutors informed the court that the case was being withdrawn following instructions from higher authorities.
During proceedings, the prosecutor told the court that he had received directives to discontinue the case, adding that the withdrawal followed consultations at higher levels of authority.
The development was reportedly influenced by interventions from leadership of the teachers’ union, including National President Prosper Takyi and General Secretary Musa Tanko, who engaged police leadership over the matter. Following the discussions, the police hierarchy reportedly agreed to the withdrawal of the case.
The court subsequently struck out the case and directed that the dispute be settled at the family level rather than through continued legal action.
It also emerged that the student’s family had engaged police authorities and agreed that the matter should be resolved through settlement.
Following the ruling, union officials and members expressed relief, describing the decision as a welcome development after days of public attention on the matter.
Ashanti Regional GNAT Chairman, Prof. Elvis Binney, urged the public and civil society groups to refrain from further accusations or threats against the teacher, stressing that the matter had been concluded in court. He added that any remaining issues would be handled internally through amicable settlement.
Union leaders also cautioned that the teacher has the full backing of colleagues, warning that any attempt to intimidate or harm him would be treated as an affront to the teaching profession.
