The Assin Fosu District Court has remanded a 40-year-old mason, Kofi Awuakye, into police custody for one week over his alleged involvement in a violent robbery attack on a farmer at Roman Hill in Assin Fosu.
The accused is facing charges including unlawful entry, unlawful possession and use of an offensive weapon, and causing harm.
Awuakye appeared before His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, where prosecutors requested that he be remanded to allow police complete ongoing investigations.
The request was granted, and the court ordered that he remain in custody until his next appearance scheduled for June 18, 2026.
Prosecution, led by Matilda Osaah Buabeng, told the court that the accused had been on the run for several months following the alleged attack.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Kwabena Atta, a 35-year-old farmer, was attacked in the early hours of October 29, 2025, while asleep in his room. He reportedly woke up to find the accused allegedly ransacking his room and armed with a knife.
When he raised an alarm, Awuakye is said to have attacked him with a cutlass, inflicting multiple wounds on his shoulder, back, and other parts of his body before fleeing the scene.
Despite efforts by the victim and nearby residents, the suspect reportedly escaped arrest at the time. The complainant later received medical treatment and submitted an endorsed police medical report to aid investigations.
Police say the suspect was eventually identified on June 3, 2026, at the Adiembra Lorry Station in Assin Fosu. With the help of members of the public, he was arrested and handed over to police. the Although Awuakye has denied the allegations during interrogation, investigators say evidence links him to the crime.
The case has been adjourned to June 18, 2026.
