Ghana, U.S. to hold high-level discussions on Ken Ofori-Atta extradition case

Ghana is set to engage the United States in high-level discussions over outstanding extradition requests, including the case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has announced.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the talks will bring together Ghana’s Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, and officials of the U.S. Department of Justice to review pending extradition matters between the two countries.

He noted that the engagement will cover all active requests from both sides as part of efforts to strengthen legal cooperation on cross-border criminal justice issues.

Among the key cases expected on the agenda is Ghana’s request for the extradition of Mr. Ofori-Atta, who is currently under investigation by state authorities.

The planned discussions come amid renewed focus on extradition cooperation following recent developments in high-profile financial crime cases.

It also follows the extradition of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, who was returned to Ghana on Tuesday, June 9, after prolonged legal processes abroad.

Upon arrival, she was taken into custody by security agencies to begin enforcement of court processes.

U.S. authorities are also expected to table their own extradition requests during the meeting, including cases involving individuals wanted for prosecution, among them a suspect identified as Abu Trica.
