The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality have organised a sensitisation exercise for residents of Kojonya on fire safety measures.
Speaking to the media, Station Officer Larbi Eric, in charge of safety at the Kpong Fire Station, advised that Ghanaians must be cautious in their homes when using electrical gadgets or inflammable materials in order to prevent fire outbreaks.
According to him, some Ghanaians fail to switch off electrical gadgets before leaving their homes, which he described as a dangerous practice and one that contributes to frequent fire outbreaks in homes. He urged residents to put an end to such behaviour.
He also advised residents to work together in their homes to enable the prompt combat of fire outbreaks when detected.
"My advice is that, sometimes when we're doing something in our homes we need to focus on what we're doing to avoid any bad news. During the program we talk about fire safety and what I was saying is that, fire safety teaches so many things," he advised.
Joycelyn Dansoa Alormenyo, NADMO Zonal Director at the Odumase, Asitey Zone in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, stated in an interview that their aim is to help residents prevent disasters.
She urged all residents in the community and the municipality to avoid dumping refuse in gutters as the country approaches the rainy season.
