The University of Cape Coast (UCC), has announced the deaths of two members of its academic community after a fatal road accident at Third Ridge Junction on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 29, the university said the crash involved a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, and his teaching assistant, Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah. Both were killed in the incident.
UCC reported that the accident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, April 29 and involved a Toyota Corolla and a HOWO tipper truck.
The university said five other people were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
The university described Dr. Agyemang as a dedicated teacher and researcher who was well respected by colleagues and students.
It also noted that Mr. Amoadu-Asmah, a National Service Person and recent graduate of the department, had excelled academically, finishing as the overall best student in his cohort.
UCC noted both individuals were valuable members of the university community and that their contributions will be deeply missed.
The university extended condolences to the families and called on the public especially the media to exercise restraint and show sensitivity when reporting on the incident.
