The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed an attack on a military escort convoy protecting 140 civilians along the Bawku–Bolgatanga route at Binduri on Monday, April 27, 2026.
The incident resulted in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to one person, while seven assailants were neutralized during the exchange.
In a statement, the GAF said the attack occurred in the morning as the convoy traveled from Bawku toward Bolgatanga.
The GAF noted that the assailants opened fire on the vehicles multiple times, prompting a swift response from military personnel.
The troops successfully repelled the assault, resulting in the death of seven of the attackers.
In the ensuing pursuit, soldiers apprehended one suspect hiding in a nearby mosque with a G3 automatic rifle, two loaded magazines containing 20 rounds each, and an additional 176 rounds of ammunition.
The statement added that ten other suspects were also arrested and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Armed Forces further cautioned the public against interfering with military or security operations, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased civilians, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
