President John Dramani Mahama has highlighted Bimbilla’s strategic importance as a key agricultural hub during the sod-cutting ceremony for a 24-hour economy model market in Ghana’s Northern Region.
He noted that the project, which is among the largest model markets under the initiative, will include ten large warehouses to support the safe storage and efficient redistribution of agricultural produce.
“And so Bimbilla being an important food producing area, it is only proper that Bimbilla should get one of the largest model markets.
"Yours is one of the largest model market because Bimbilla is the largest producer of yams, is the largest producers of maize, it’s the largest producers of beans, groundnut, l mean just name any products, food product, and Bimbilla is the epicenter of agricultural production,” he said.
He stressed the importance of linking production to markets, explaining that farming without access to markets renders the effort unproductive.
He further indicated that the market will enhance storage and distribution capacity through dedicated warehouse facilities.
“And so in this market, you are going to have 10 ware houses, 10 large big size warehouses, where you can keep your food products safely and come back and pick them for redistribution,” he revealed.
