GRIDCo and Ghana Gas announce plans to shut down for critical system restoration

GRIDCo and Ghana Gas have announced a planned shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant to complete critical system restoration works following a major fault in the Burner Management System (BMS).

The fault resulted in complete damage to the controller, necessitating its full replacement.

However, it has been revealed that all enabling works to replace the BMS are approximately 90% complete.

According to the statement released on April 19, a planned shutdown of the Gas Processing Plant will be required to complete the installation. The shutdown is scheduled to run for five (5) hours, from midnight to 05:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026.

GRIDCo and Ghana Gas assured the public that all necessary technical and operational measures have been put in place to ensure the works are completed within the scheduled timeframe.

According to the statement, measures have also been implemented to minimise the impact of the shutdown on consumers.

It assured the public that it remains committed to maintaining a stable and reliable power supply.

"We assure the public of our commitment to operational excellence and system reliability, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this necessary exercise may cause," it assured.
