Two suspected armed robbers were shot dead by the Tema Regional Operations Team on Monday, April 13, 2026, after attacking a Mobile Money vendor at Aba Fosuah Plaza in Community 5.
The robbers, who arrived on a motorbike around 8:30 a.m., posed as customers before pulling a gun and demanding cash. A struggle ensued, during which the victim was shot in the leg, allowing the suspects to grab the money and flee.
Police patrol officers quickly intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital area. The suspects ignored orders to stop, leading officers on a chase toward the Smart Hotel area, where they opened fire.
Police returned fire, incapacitating both men. “The suspects were transported to the Police Hospital for medical attention but were pronounced dead on arrival by a medical officer,” a statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu confirmed.
A search on the suspects retrieved GH¢11,390 believed to be stolen, a 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, SIM cards, a talisman, and the victim’s Ghana Card.
The injured vendor is currently in stable condition receiving treatment, while police say investigations are ongoing and have urged the public to remain vigilant.
