Fuel prices in Ghana would be much higher under NPP’s economic management - Hamza Suhuyini

Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, has stated that fuel prices in Ghana would have been significantly higher if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were still in power.

In an interview, he argued that the NPP’s economic management would have exacerbated the impact of global shocks such as COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war on the country’s economy.

“Mind you if they were in power, I’m pretty much convinced that a litre of fuel would have been 21 or so Ghana cedis but this is not the case today,” he said.

He emphasised that the NDC had long warned about poor economic management under the NPP, which would have made Ghana more vulnerable to external shocks.

According to him, concerns about the country’s economic direction were raised even before the global crises, insisting that the NDC’s warnings at the time have been justified.

“We were justified in saying that if they had managed the economy well we would have been able to weather the storm with COVID and that of Ukraine like we are beginning to do with the Iran invasion,” he said.
