The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has unleashed an unprovoked tirade against former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Interestingly, the very remark that incited Kennedy Agyapong’s fervent attacks on the former Vice President did not originate from Dr. Bawumia, but rather from the NPP's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi.
While addressing NPP delegates in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi stated that the NPP has consistently retained its first-time presidential candidates, with the exception of Professor Adu Boahen.
He explained that the delegates had opted against retaining him due to concerns regarding the candidate's health, among other factors.
This assertion by Chairman Wontumi has been widely referenced in various publications by close associates of the late Professor, seemingly lending credence to the claim.
However, Kennedy Agyapong, misunderstanding the source, attributed the statement to Dr. Bawumia and subsequently launched into a furious diatribe against the innocent former Vice President, branding him a liar and employing derogatory language to question his character.
“I have never seen a liar like our former flagbearer before. This man is a liar for saying that Adu Boahen did not contest because he was sick,” Kennedy Agyapong remarked, neglecting to verify his information and misinterpreting Chairman Wontumi’s statement.
Kennedy Agyapong’s verbal assault on Bawumia has drawn significant backlash, with numerous Ghanaians expressing their disappointment and astonishment that Mr. Agyapong would target the former Vice President over an issue unrelated to him.
