The Agona East Constituency Officers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have demanded a retraction and an unqualified apology from Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana host, Paul Adom Otchere, over what they described as unfounded allegations made against Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr.

According to the constituency officers, the discussion on the programme about the transfer of the headmistress of Swedru Secondary School (SWESCO) was broadcast without any thorough investigation or verification by the production team.

They said the programme failed to contact Queenstar Sawyer to present her side of the story before linking her to the alleged transfer.

The officers highlighted that Queenstar Sawyer, who has served Agona East for four terms in Parliament, has demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to the constituency’s development, earning the admiration of residents.

They refuted claims aired on the programme that Queenstar Sawyer influenced the transfer of the SWESCO headmistress to St. Gregory’s Senior High School. Their checks, they said, indicate that the headmistress was transferred to Abirim Senior High School.

The NDC officers also dismissed allegations that Queenstar Sawyer threatened the headmistress or submitted a list of students with poor academic performance for admission to the school.

They maintained there has never been any confrontation between Queenstar Sawyer and the school authorities.

On the issue of voter registration raised during the programme, the officers stated that Queenstar Sawyer had no dispute with SWESCO authorities. They alleged, instead, that viral videos showed students being transported to Awutu Senya East during the voter registration exercise, which had caused public concern.

The officers stressed that responsible journalism requires media houses to seek the views of all parties involved before airing allegations, adding that the failure to do so contravenes basic principles of balanced and professional journalism.

Reaffirming their confidence in Queenstar Sawyer, the Agona East NDC Constituency Officers described her as a respected and dedicated leader who has supported development in the constituency over the years.

They have called on Good Evening Ghana and its host, Paul Adom Otchere, to retract the statements made on the programme, remove the video from public platforms, and render an unqualified apology to the people of Agona East and Queenstar Sawyer within 24 hours.
