C/R: Fuel tanker explodes at Potsin Junction, causing property damage

A fuel tanker reportedly burst into flames at Potsin Junction on the Kasoa-Winneba road in the Central Region, triggering an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Firefighters from the Apam Fire Station are currently on the ground, working swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent further escalation.

The fire has already destroyed a chop bar and three houses at Gomoa Potsin Junction along the highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker driver was travelling from Kasoa towards Winneba when, upon reaching Potsin Junction, the driver slipped onto the shoulder of the road, leading to the explosion.

During an interview, one witness revealed that immediately after the tanker fell, the section containing the petrol rolled twice before the explosion occurred.

The witness further expressed that the fire had destroyed the chop bar and five other shops in the area.

"I was inside my chop bar and I saw a fuel tanker, and all of a sudden the tanker fell down.

"However, I thought there was nothing in it, so I returned to my chop bar shop. All that I saw was the explosion which has burnt all my properties; even where to sleep has become a problem for us, so we're appealing to NADMO to come to our aide to help us in this situation."

Another eyewitness recounted, "I saw the fuel tanker from Accra to Winneba; I was actually close by, and all I saw was the tanker falling down, which made a loud sound.

I didn't see anything come out from it, and if I had known there was something in it, I wouldn't have gone back to the chop bar before the fire exploded."
