Miracle Aboagye accuses NDC of failing over illegal mining

The Director of Communication for Bawumia's campaign team, Dennis Miracle Aboagye, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by President John Dramani Mahama, has failed Ghanaians in their efforts to combat illegal mining.

In an interview, he emphasised that the NDC has failed to introduce any new initiatives to tackle illegal mining in Ghana despite their campaign promises.

He pointed out that military and police officers were already engaged in fighting illegal mining before the NDC took power in January.

"Before they took over in January, there were military and police men fighting galamsey; they are thieves, they are criminals. To betray people in this manner is a crime.

"There is no greater crime than a betrayal. I get emotional when I see this government behave this way, because we all accepted that we are in a difficult situation, and then you came to tell us so much," he stated.

Mr. Aboagye further noted that illegal miners no longer conceal their activities; they openly mine even in areas near police checkpoints. He added that NDC party executives often engage in illegal mining themselves, employing young people for these activities and using their influence to protect them. He asserted that some of these executives even confront security officers attempting to uphold the law.

He reminded listeners that the NDC is responsible for the rise of 'galamsey' in Ghana, tracing it back to the introduction of water and forest area mining in 2010.

"Until the NDC introduced this kind of water and forest area galamsey in 2010, we didn't have this. They brought this.

"Why can't people just be different, just a little bit? These are the same people who introduced this kind of galamsey into this country," he stated.
