'President Mahama is acting with slogans but no action' - Afenyo Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has said that President Mahama is acting with slogans but no action.

Speaking in Parliament during the presentation of the State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, 2026, he expressed deep concern about the current state of the nation.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin highlighted the rise in electricity tariffs, noting that many Ghanaians can no longer afford power.

“Electricity tariffs have skyrocketed, and Ghanaians cannot afford electricity. President Mahama is acting with slogans with no action," the Minority Leader opined.

He further emphasised that thousands of Ghanaians had been dismissed by letter from the Chief of Staff, citing this as part of the nation’s governance issues.

He also stated that the government lacked sympathy for cocoa farmers, who are the key producers of the nation’s cash crop. He argued that discussing inflation in Parliament had little impact on farmers.

“The cocoa farmers, they have reduced the producer price, and Eric Opoku cannot be found. They don’t care about cocoa farmers, and they are here telling us about inflation and the macroeconomy," he said.

The Minority Leader stressed that the Gold for Reserve policy should be attributed to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and criticised President Mahama for failing to acknowledge him.

“I would want to urge the government to give Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia,” he added.
