Awutu Senya West MP condemns violent incident between OSTECH and SWESBU

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Awutu Senya West Constituency, Gizela Tetteh Agbotui, has condemned the violence that marred a district-level inter-schools sporting competition in Agona Swedru.

The competition turned violent following the rekindling of an existing feud between students from Swedru Business School (SWESBU) and Obrachire Senior High Technical School (OSTECH).

Three students from OSTECH sustained injuries, with one reportedly battling internal bleeding.

In addition to the internal investigations being conducted by the Ghana Education Service (GES), the MP has called for a thorough investigation by the police to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.

“He was a bit injured like what all other schools could tell, he managed to escape from..., so he was a bit injured but he managed to escape, but he's in school and there were three of them apparently. I think his father came for him; another went to a CHP compound nearby.”

The MP has also suggested that the presence of law enforcement officers at such events in the future could help prevent similar incidents.

Meanwhile, the heads of the schools involved, along with the students, have been summoned to a meeting at the national headquarters of the Ghana Education Service as part of the ongoing investigations.

In response to the incident, the Central Regional Education Directorate has imposed a temporary ban on inter-schools sporting activities.
