The Minister for Government Communications, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, will today address the nation to unveil emergency measures approved by Cabinet to address challenges in the cocoa sector.
The announcement follows an emergency Cabinet meeting held to assess the deepening difficulties confronting the industry.
“At 11 a.m. today, the Finance Minister will address the people of Ghana and announce far-reaching measures agreed upon at the conclusion of the Cabinet meeting,” Mr. Ofosu said.
He explained that the emergency discussions focused on urgent concerns, including delayed payments to cocoa farmers and the need for major structural reforms within the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
“Decisive steps have been agreed on to fast-track payments to cocoa farmers, implement the most drastic reforms in the cocoa sector, and achieve significant progress in domestic cocoa processing rather than the export of raw materials,” he added.
In recent weeks, cocoa farmers in several producing regions have complained about unpaid proceeds for beans supplied since late 2025, increasing pressure on government to act swiftly to stabilise the sector.
