A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team in the Suhum Constituency, Samuel Twumasi, has expressed disappointment in Ghana’s security system over what he described as growing drug-related challenges in the country.
According to him, drug cases are often recorded under National Democratic Congress (NDC) administrations whenever the party comes to power.
Mr Twumasi said the situation had weakened Ghana’s security system under the current NDC government, adding that other countries now viewed Ghana’s security arrangements as poor.
“Do you know when it comes to NDC government whenever they’re in power we record more drug cases because of that people have gotten to know that Ghana security system is very poor because the Commander in Chief and the National Security is weak,” he said.
Mr Twumasi made the comments during his submission on the Adinkra FM Morning Show.
He further stated that the weakness of Ghana’s security system had created an opportunity for other people to consider making the country a drug hub for exporting narcotics.
The NPP communicator also urged the NDC government to prioritise Ghana’s security system in order to restore and protect the country’s good image globally.
His comments followed the seizure of 3.9 metric tonnes of cocaine by French customs authorities on September 10, 2026.
The drugs, valued at approximately €225 million (US$261.45 million), were discovered at the Port of Dunkirk hidden inside a container declared as plastic waste and shipped from Ghana.
