Politician, philanthropist and businessman Jeremiah Maclean Jnr., widely known as “Jnr. JM”, has officially declared his ambition to run for the Greater Accra Regional Vice Chairmanship on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Unveiling his decision at the National Emerging Leaders Economic Forum 2026 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Mr Maclean disclosed that his political bid follows extensive engagements with key political mentors, advisers, peers and associates across the party’s rank and file.
He confirmed his resolve to formally file his nomination once the party officially opens the process ahead of its regional elective congress scheduled for November.
“After careful consultation with my godfathers, advisers, friends, loved ones and colleagues I have worked with over the years, I have decided that when nominations are officially opened, I will present myself for the regional vice chairman position,” he stated.
Mr Maclean further observed that Greater Accra, which houses the nation’s seat of power, demands dynamic, forward-thinking leadership and visionary strategies to navigate its complex political landscape.
He assured party members that, if victorious, he would work in tandem with the incoming Regional Chairman to institute reforms designed to reinforce administrative efficiency and party organisation throughout the region.
“Although the party constitution does not clearly define extensive functions for the vice chairman, if I am elected, I will bring a lot of initiatives to support my chairman and ensure that we effectively run the administration of the region,” he explained.
He further noted that a core pillar of his agenda would involve actively promoting government policies to the populace while fortifying local party structures across all constituencies in the region.
Reflecting on his political trajectory, the aspirant cited his history of voluntary service, voter recruitment drives and previous participation in internal executive elections as the foundation of his party loyalty and political grit.
His political footprint includes past bids for branch communications officer, constituency secretary and executive member contests, in which he experienced both triumphs and defeats, yet remained unwavering in his dedication to the NDC.
Far from demotivating him, he stressed that past political hurdles had only broadened his operational experience and deepened his resolve to serve the umbrella party.
He also referenced his hands-on involvement during the 2020 voter registration drive, during which he toured several constituencies across Greater Accra to offer direct assistance to field officers and prospective registrants.
As part of those outreach efforts, he distributed drinking water and logistics to citizens enduring extended waiting times at registration centres.
According to him, those field operations provided him with deep, practical insights into grassroots dynamics and the daily challenges encountered by party loyalists and election managers.
However, Mr Maclean declared his readiness to build upon his track record and align with the broader party agenda to maximise the NDC’s electoral performance across the capital.
He expressed optimism that, through disciplined party machinery, robust community outreach and innovative stewardship, the NDC can cement its dominance in Greater Accra and sweep all parliamentary seats in subsequent general elections.
