SSNIT expands services to make life easier for pensioners

By: Emmanuel Bekoe

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is expanding digital, health and banking services to make access easier for pensioners across Ghana.

Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations and Benefits at SSNIT, Adam Sulley, said the Trust considers pensioners its most valuable stakeholders and is committed to keeping them informed about services affecting their welfare.

Speaking at a 2026 workshop for pensioners, Mr Sulley said SSNIT was leveraging technology to improve service delivery, particularly for pensioners who face difficulties using digital platforms.

He said pensioners can now access selected services digitally, including the renewal of certificates, without necessarily travelling to an SSNIT branch.

Mr Sulley also highlighted SSNIT’s Telehealth service, which enables pensioners to consult medical professionals remotely. Pensioners can dial the designated number to speak with a doctor, receive medical advice and, where necessary, obtain prescriptions.

He further announced the Membership Value Program (MVP), which offers pensioners additional benefits, including discounts from selected strategic partners.

According to him, SSNIT has also partnered with Ecobank, Fidelity Bank and GCB Bank to provide selected SSNIT services, reducing the need for pensioners to travel long distances to SSNIT offices.

Mr Sulley said the initiatives could provide additional value to pensioners amid ongoing discussions about annual pension indexation and increases in monthly pension payments.

Meanwhile, Western Regional Chairman of the National Pensioners Association, Anthony Essien, said the workshop had equipped pensioners with information to better understand changes in SSNIT’s operations. He identified delayed reporting of pensioners’ deaths as a major concern, noting that it could result in pension payments continuing when rightful beneficiaries were not receiving the funds.
