A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team, Kwadwo Poku, has stated that anyone who receives money from politicians to induce votes also commits a crime and can be arrested.
Speaking on GHone TV on Monday, February 9, he emphasised that the money and gifts received from politicians are often valued more highly by the electorate than the development projects and parliamentary work undertaken by those politicians.
"All the community want and all the delegates want is to take, take, take, and that is a problem," he stated.
Mr. Poku further asserted that after receiving these gifts, some individuals appear on camera discussing who provided sufficient support and who did not, mistakenly believing that only the giver commits a crime.
"Now what even basically kills me is when they are blatantly on video and talking to the journalist about who gave and who didn’t give and how they are going to look for the other person; it tells you that they don’t know that the receiver is also committing a crime," he uttered.
He noted that politicians often fear contesting elections again after losing due to the significant amounts of money they are required to spend during the electoral process.
