NPP national chairmanship race: John Boadu secures no. 1 spot on ballot

By: Emmanuel Bekoe

John Boadu will lead the ballot in the NPP national chairmanship race, followed by Sammy Crabbe, Paul Awintame Afoko and Boakye Agyarko.

The ballot-positioning exercise is currently underway at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) national headquarters as the party prepares for its national executive elections.

The four candidates will appear on the chairmanship ballot in this order: 1. John Boadu, 2. Sammy Crabbe, 3. Paul Awintame Afoko, and 4. Boakye Agyarko.

Boadu, a former NPP General Secretary, takes the first position, while Crabbe, a former Greater Accra Regional Chairman, occupies the second slot.

Former NPP National Chairman Paul Awintame Afoko has been assigned the third position, with former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko completing the ballot in fourth place.

The positioning marks an important stage in the contest to determine who will lead the party’s national chairmanship after incumbent chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim, who is not seeking re-election.

The election is scheduled for October 3, 2026, as the NPP seeks to reorganise its structures and strengthen its preparations ahead of the 2028 general election.

With the ballot order now established, attention is expected to shift further to the candidates’ campaigns, policy priorities and efforts to secure support from delegates ahead of the national election.
