The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested 10 students of Koforidua Technical University for allegedly producing, distributing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice cream on campus during the Students' Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations.

The intelligence-led operation was carried out between Friday, 31 July and Saturday, 1 August 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspected ringleader, 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, and nine other young men believed to be part of an organised network.

According to NACOC, the suspects were apprehended while allegedly selling the cannabis-infused products to students and patrons attending the event. Preliminary investigations indicate that the group had established a coordinated operation to manufacture and distribute the products on campus.

The Commission said the alleged activities pose a significant threat to public health and the safety of young people, stressing that the production, possession, distribution and sale of food, beverages and other edible products containing controlled substances remain illegal under Ghanaian law.

NACOC warned that individuals involved in such activities would face the full rigours of the law, adding that it is concerned about what it described as a growing trend of young people commercialising narcotic substances under the guise of entertainment and entrepreneurship.

The Commission also appealed to parents, university authorities, student leaders and the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected drug-related activities to help safeguard educational institutions and surrounding communities from substance abuse.

NACOC said all 10 suspects remain in its custody and will be processed in accordance with the law. It added that intelligence-led operations will continue nationwide to identify and dismantle networks involved in narcotics production and trafficking.
