Court of Appeal quashes 10 year sentence, acquits former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu

The Court of Appeal has overturned the 10-year prison term imposed on former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu and acquitted her, finding that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against her.

In April 2024, an Accra High Court sentenced Attionu to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after convicting her of causing financial loss to the State.

She had been found guilty on 78 counts, including stealing, causing financial loss to the State, money laundering and improper payment of public funds.

Ms Attionu had been permitted by the High Court in 2021 to travel to the United States for medical treatment while her trial was pending.

She did not return to Ghana to take part in the proceedings, which led the trial to continue in her absence and to her conviction in absentia. Businessman Daniel Axim was convicted alongside her.

Her legal team lodged a notice of appeal in May 2024. Following an extradition process initiated by the Government of Ghana, Attionu returned to Ghana from the United States on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 to begin serving the sentence.

Presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that officers of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service had taken her into custody and were making arrangements for her to commence the term.

On Thursday, July 30, 2026, the Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, ruling that the prosecution did not establish the case against her and that she should not have been sentenced.
