The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) has said a power system disturbance at about 3:11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, caused the simultaneous tripping of several generating plants and led to interruptions in electricity supply across parts of the national grid.
In a statement, issued by the Corporate Communications Section, GRIDCo, said its engineers and system operators have activated established restoration procedures and are working continuously with power sector stakeholders to bring the system back online “within the shortest time possible without compromising safety.”
The company apologised for the inconvenience and thanked the public for their patience.
It stated that a comprehensive technical investigation has begun to determine the precise cause of the disturbance, the operator said it will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
GRIDCo urged customers to exercise caution around electricity infrastructure while restoration work continues and reassured the public of the company’s commitment to restoring supply to all affected customers “as quickly and safely as possible.”
