The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man, Mr. Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, suspected of using false promises of marriage to defraud women and of sharing intimate images without consent.

According Ghana Police Service Facebook page, preliminary investigations show the suspect posed as a pastor conducting online church services on Instagram, where he allegedly targeted several women and told them God had revealed they would become his wives.

He is reported to have gained victims’ trust by meeting their families and presenting promise rings.

The suspect is also accused of obtaining intimate images from some victims and using those images to blackmail them for money.

In one scheme, he purported to run a car-tyre business and allegedly collected thousands of dollars from victims for the shipment and clearing of containers of tyres, after which he became unreachable.

Investigators say the suspect shared some victims’ intimate images with his wife, Ms. Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is likewise accused of threatening the victims. Seven victims have so far reported the matter to police, and the alleged offences date back to 2021.

Both Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng and Sally Akosua Amoasah were arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court 1 on counts including conspiracy to commit a crime, defrauding by false pretences, and non‑consensual sharing of intimate images.

The court remanded Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng into Police custody; he is to reappear on August 6, 2026. Ms. Amoasah was granted bail.

The Ghana Police Service is urging any person who believes they may be a victim or who has information relevant to the investigation to report immediately to the nearest Police station.

The Service reaffirms its commitment to protecting victims of online fraud and abuse and to prosecuting offenders.
