Ghana has signalled its readiness to welcome and protect Chinese investment during talks with a seven‑member delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs and academics that visited the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in Accra on Monday, July 27.

The Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, assured the delegation their investments would be safeguarded and pledged government support.

“Your investment will be protected. We are ready for business and we will support you as a government," he said.

The delegation, led by Dean of the China‑Africa Economic and Trade Research Institute and founder of China‑Africa Bridge, Professor Haoxing Zhao, included representatives from Zhenjiang Gongshang University.

It sought to explore deeper business collaboration, investment and trade cooperation between Ghana and China.

Professor Zhao said the visit aimed to strengthen trade ties and build partnerships between Chinese companies, universities and Ghanaian institutions. He said the group was particularly interested in collaborating on an industrial park to support manufacturing, education and entrepreneurship development in Ghana.

Hon. Ahi described the visit as a reflection of the long‑standing 66‑year relationship between Ghana and China and reiterated the government’s commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation. He also welcomed the Chinese government’s zero‑tariff initiative, noting it would create greater access for Ghanaian businesses to the Chinese market.

Highlighting Ghana’s strategic position as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, Hon. Ahi said the country is well placed as a gateway to the wider African market.

The meeting forms part of ongoing Ghana–China initiatives, including the recent “Ghana Day” in Hangzhou and the Ghana‑Hangzhou Economic and Trade Centre, which aim to connect Ghanaian products and innovations with Chinese markets.

The ministry said follow‑up discussions will focus on concrete investment projects and institutional partnerships.
