Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has denied claims that he is seeking to acquire the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), describing the allegations as false.

Mr Mahama, through a statement signed by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, said he has no interest in taking over the Tema-based aluminium company and has not submitted any offer for its acquisition.

The clarification follows a demonstration by the Labour Union of VALCO, during which some participants alleged that the businessman was interested in acquiring the company.

“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO,” the statement said.

The statement described the claims as “the latest in several vile attempts to impute the integrity of Mr Ibrahim Mahama and subject him to needless public engagements.”

It defended the businessman’s corporate record, arguing that companies linked to him have established a reputation for strong management and compliance with Ghanaian laws.

“All of the business interests of Mr Mahama have been legally commenced or acquired and operate within the ambit of applicable laws. That explains why his businesses have survived across seven (7) election cycles,” the statement added.

Mr Mahama’s office further stated that he remains committed to supporting Ghana’s economic development through investments in business opportunities locally and internationally.

According to the statement, the businessman has instructed his legal team to pursue “the necessary legal action” over the allegations.

VALCO, located in Tema, has in recent years attracted public attention over concerns surrounding its operations, ownership structure and efforts to secure strategic investment partners.
