Armed robbers shot two people and robbed mobile‑money vendors when they attacked residents of Mankrong Nkwanta in the Agona East District of the Central Region on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
A mobile‑money vendor was shot from a distance before the assailants made off with an undisclosed sum, and another man was shot in the leg at close range inside his home. Both victims are receiving medical treatment.
Resident Jonathan Assan, said the attackers arrived in the community at about 7:00 p.m., firing indiscriminately near a filling station and causing panic among residents.
According to him, the robbers also robbed another mobile‑money vendor of an unspecified amount before fleeing.
The police from Mankrong Nkwanta responded to the distress call but were unable to apprehend the suspects.
“Even though we called for reinforcement from Swedru, we had no assistance," he said.
The robbers later mounted a roadblock on the Mankrong Nkwanta–Bawjiase highway, where they reportedly robbed occupants of several vehicles at gunpoint.
They remained on the highway for more than 30 minutes before leaving the area.
The incident has heightened fear among residents, who are calling on authorities to strengthen the operational capacity of the Mankrong Nkwanta police to improve security and ensure a more effective response to armed‑robbery attacks.
