The Member of Parliament for Agona East and Chairperson of Parliament’s Local Government Committee, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr, has broken grounds for the construction of the Mankrong Junction–Duakwa and Kwanyako-Akotsi roads on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Speaking to residents, Hon. Sawyerr said the road will improve transportation, facilitate the movement of goods and services, enhance access to schools and health facilities and stimulate economic activity in surrounding communities. She added that the project’s completion will benefit the wider area.

"Roads are one of the important things in our everyday lives, I say this because it really contribute to our wellbeing, market women use it, travellers, students, in fact they are used for so many other things which helps not only my constituents but all people. So I am so glad for today and we pray for a successful completion for us all," she stated.

Hon. Sawyerr urged the contractors to employ local youths from the communities during the construction so they can earn income and support their livelihoods, rather than bringing in workers from outside.

She said the Mankrong Junction–Duakwa road is not the only contract awarded; as Kwanyako–Akotsi road will also be constructed. Therefore said, she will appeal to all contractors to hire local youths so they may benefit from the projects during the one‑year construction period.

"We plead on the contractor to employ our own youths in the communities to work with them so that all the youths in this area will be able at least get job to do within this one year of construction, in other to help them benefit from these projects rather than bringing people from outside the communities," she said.
