The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership, joined by the party’s flagbearer and legal team, have held an emergency meeting to review the judgment in the case involving Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

This follows the Accra High Court ruling on the Ashanti Regional Chairman, of 20 years imprisonment in the Akonta Mining illegal mining case.

In a statement signed on Monday, July 20, 2026, by General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong said the meeting’s purpose was to “thoroughly review” the court’s decision in the Samreboi mining matter and decide the party’s next steps.

The statement added that the party will announce its official position and any actions resulting from the deliberations in due course.

Mr. Frimpong appealed to members to remain calm and united while the leadership considers its response, urging discipline and continued commitment to party values.

The party’s reference to consultation with its legal team indicates possible avenues could include an appeal, an application for review, or other legal remedies.

Chairman Wontumi, a high-profile figure in the Ashanti Region and vocal NPP campaigner, has previously faced legal scrutiny in cases linked to mining activities. The Samreboi case centers on alleged irregularities connected to mining operations in the area.

The NPP said it will publish its decisions once the leadership completes its review.
