The Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has intensified enforcement against the unauthorised use of sirens, strobe lights, emergency lights, improvised headlamps, horns, and the unlawful use of road shoulders and verges along the Assin Fosu–Cape Coast Highway.

The special operation, conducted at Assin Fosu, resulted in the arrest of hundreds of drivers and motorcyclists as part of efforts by the Central North Regional Police Command to enforce road traffic regulations, improve discipline among motorists, and enhance road safety.

Speaking to the media, the Central North Regional MTTD Commander, ASP Wonder Lumor, said the exercise targeted motorists who had illegally installed and were using sirens and emergency lights without the required authorisation.

He explained that officers educated offenders on Regulations 65 and 74 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), after which the vehicles were impounded in accordance with the law.

ASP Lumor said all unauthorised sirens and emergency lights were removed from the affected vehicles, while the offenders were cautioned and issued warning letters to deter future violations.

He stressed that the operation forms part of a sustained regional enforcement campaign and warned that similar exercises would continue to ensure full compliance with road traffic laws.

ASP Lumor further appealed to motorists to obey traffic regulations and refrain from practices that endanger other road users.

"We're taking action to remove all those lights and it is one of the main causes of accident, when you drive just as I do, as driver when you drive in the night, you'll see that they put on lights that will reflect on you the one who is coming from opposite direction.

"It is these strobe lights that reflects, when I mention vehicle Iean motorbikes and cars, vehicle are fitted with original lights which went through all manner of tests, scientific test before they're sold out," he explained.
