A 15‑year‑old boy, Alhasan Asan, was burnt beyond recognition after a midnight fire razed a six‑bedroom residential building at Suame Post Office in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 14, at around 1:00 am while the occupants were asleep.

The aunt, Nana Akua, explained that the fire spread quickly, engulfing the entire building before help could arrive.

She cited that residents who rushed to the scene said they heard screams but could not rescue Asan in time, stating that he was trapped in the blaze and burnt beyond recognition.

“It was around 1am. We saw smoke and fire everywhere. By the time we got there, it was too late. We are all shocked,” a resident lamented.

The fire also destroyed household items and personal belongings worth thousands of cedis.

Officers from Breman Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) later arrived to bring the fire under control, revealing that, when they arrived, there was no water in the tanker. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

The police have since deposited the remains at the morgue for preservation and identification, as investigations continue.
