Wontumi declares bid for NPP national chairmanship

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Chairman of the party.

In a statement dated February 4, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said his decision follows wide consultations with party elders and the youth, stressing the need for steady, principled, and unifying leadership at a critical moment in the party’s history.

According to him, the NPP has faced significant challenges in recent years, making it imperative to rebuild confidence, empower the grassroots, and reposition the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.

He described himself as a grassroots-oriented leader who values every member of the party and is prepared to make sacrifices to strengthen and unify the NPP.

Chairman Wontumi noted that the task ahead would require courage, vision, and difficult decision-making, adding that he is ready to lead the party through what he termed “the battle ahead.”

“We are ready. We are organised. We are built for the battle ahead,” he stated.

He concluded by calling for unity within the party, expressing confidence that the NPP would rise again together.
