Mahama embarks on three-day state visit to Zambia

President John Dramani Mahama is set to undertake a three-day State visit to the Republic of Zambia from February 4 to 6, 2026, following an official invitation from President Hakainde Hichilema.

The President will be accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama.

During the visit, President Mahama is expected to hold bilateral discussions with his Zambian counterpart on issues of shared interest, including the strengthening of diplomatic relations, expansion of trade and investment cooperation, and the exploration of new opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

A major highlight of the visit will be President Mahama’s address to the National Assembly of Zambia, where he is expected to articulate Ghana’s vision for a more integrated, resilient, and prosperous African continent. He will also engage with members of the Ghanaian community in Lusaka as part of efforts to strengthen ties with Ghanaians living and working abroad.

The State visit will further feature a Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue, co-chaired by Presidents Mahama and Hichilema. The forum is expected to provide a platform for Ghana to showcase its digital innovations and fintech services to Zambian businesses and public institutions, with the aim of deepening economic cooperation and promoting knowledge exchange.

According to the Presidency, the visit underscores President Mahama’s broader commitment to advancing an Africa connected through enhanced transport infrastructure, expanded trade networks, and the free movement of people and goods.

President Mahama remains a strong proponent of the accelerated implementation of the AfCFTA, which he considers vital for transforming African economies, creating sustainable jobs for the continent’s growing youth population, and strengthening Africa’s competitiveness in the global market.

Ahead of the Zambia trip, President Mahama will depart Accra on Sunday, February 1, 2026, for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of the Ruler of the UAE to attend the World Governments Summit 2026, scheduled for February 2 to 4.

He will travel to Dubai aboard a special aircraft provided by the Ruler of the UAE, which will also convey him and his delegation onward to Zambia for the State Visit.
