The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) rescue team, has retrieved a man from a well at Asokwa, a community near the District Assembly in Abura Dunkwa, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the GNFS Public Relations Officer of the Central Region, on Friday, June 12, 2026, about 0710 hours the Abura Dunkwa Fire Station received a distress call reporting a person trapped in a well.
A seven-member team led by ADO II Louis Afful was dispatched immediately and arrived at the scene at 0755 hours. The crew was later reinforced by ADO I Jeffery Ampiah and SO I Morgan to begin rescue operations.
The victim, identified as Kwesi Salifu, a mason working inside the well, reportedly experienced difficulty breathing due to low oxygen levels.
Eyewitnesses and the site owner, Mr Henry Duker, said Salifu became overwhelmed while attempting to exit, lost consciousness and fell back into the well.
The GNFS team successfully retrieved Salifu and handed him over to the Ghana Police Service for further action and investigation.
