Seven people have been arrested and three stolen Hyundai cars recovered following an intelligence‑led operation by the Inspector‑General of Police’s special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in the Eastern Region.
According to reports, CVET began the investigation after receiving a report on May 25, 2026 that an unregistered blue Hyundai Elantra had been stolen from its owner in Nkawkaw.
Digital and intelligence inquiries led officers to a hideout at Roman Down, Asamankese, where the team, working with the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) detachment, arrested seven suspects and seized the stolen vehicles.
The recovered cars included unregistered Hyundai Elantra and Sonata models. Those arrested are Acheampong Otuo Kofi, alias Levels (28); Kpachen Ebenezer (26); Fianko Isaac, alias Yaw (35); Besah Elizabeth (24); David Kudalor (28); Enoch Acheampong (38); and Solomon Odei (35).
All seven suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations, and the impounded vehicles are held by the police.
Authorities said efforts are continuing to trace additional stolen vehicles possibly linked to the group and urged the public to report any suspected car‑jacking syndicates in their communities.
