Agona East MP donates relief items to Brahabekum flood victims

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyerr, has donated food and household items to residents of Brahabekum displaced by recent torrential rains.

The items provided include 20 bags of maize, 20 bags of rice, five packs of cooking oil, 100 rubber basins, 30 rubber buckets and 50 cups and bowls.

Hon. Sawyerr previously delivered 100 bags of cement, two trips of double‑axle sand, 100 blankets, mosquito nets and mosquito repellents and a sum of money to support the community.

The relief was presented on the MP’s behalf by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Samuel Oscar Mensah, with support from the District Director of NADMO, Mr Seth Asomaning Williams, Kwansakrom Assemblywoman Ernestina Sackey and constituency executives.

He also said the MP, in collaboration with NADMO, has made arrangements for the speedy dredging of the river to restore free flow and help prevent recurrent flooding.

He further advised community members not to build in waterways, waterlogged areas or too close to water sources to reduce the risk of future flooding and urged the chief and elders to ensure the items are shared fairly.

"We are here to deliver these items as the Member of Parliament, Obaatanpa Pokuah Sawyerr, promised. All these items you are seeing here are from her to provide support to those whose houses were destroyed by flooding during the heavy rainfall recently.

"I urge you to always be careful when building your house and make sure not to build in water log areas so that such things will not happen again, because it feel sad when such things happen," he stated.
