Accra High Court grants bail to Abronye DC in the sum of GHS100,000 with two sureties

The Accra High Court has granted bail to Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.

The decision was delivered on Thursday, 21 May 21, 2026, following proceedings in which Abronye DC challenged his continued detention.

He had previously been remanded into the custody of the BNI by Circuit Court 9 in Accra on allegations of spreading false news.

His legal team filed a motion contesting the remand order, arguing that his prolonged detention was unjustified.

The case drew considerable public and political attention after Abronye DC was rearrested subsequent to an earlier grant of bail while investigations were ongoing.

Prior to the High Court’s ruling, the NPP criticised aspects of the bail process, describing the transfer of the matter from Criminal Court Two to General Jurisdiction Two as “mind-boggling”.

The party alleged that the transfer was a deliberate attempt to frustrate the bail application and expressed concern about what it characterised as increasing political intimidation of opposition figures.
