A Ghana Armed Forces soldier has died after a blast during the recently concluded counter‑terrorism exercise, Exercise Storm Shield, in the Upper East Region.
The deceased, who was the 6 Infantry Battalion and a physical training instructor, Private Adotey, was killed in Binduri where the incident occurred during the 10‑day operation.
Reports say he was attempting to assist colleagues at the scene when the explosion happened.
Exercise Storm Shield, which took place in Bawku, Pusiga and Binduri, was designed to strengthen the military’s capacity to respond to terrorism and violent‑extremism threats in the northern corridor.
The Chief of Army Staff, Major‑General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, announced Private Adotey’s death at the closing ceremony held at the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bazua.
Military authorities said the exercise was completed as planned despite the tragic loss.
