Two jailed, one fined over viral Akyem Oda cutlass fight

The Swedru Circuit Court has sentenced two men to 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour and fined another GH¢6,000 over a violent cutlass fight at Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region.

The convicts, George Okyere (43), Evans Adayele (20) and Joseph Nyabaah (26), pleaded guilty to fighting with offensive weapons and causing harm.

The incident, which occurred at the New Station Area and went viral on social media, sparked public concern over rising street violence.

Evans Adayele and Joseph Nyabaah were jailed, while Okyere was fined GH¢6,000 and placed on a three year bond of good behaviour.

The court warned that the use of dangerous weapons in public spaces posed a serious threat to community safety.
